A fair analysis of the artistic problems enables interpreting the subjective aspects of life in a much better ways. For example, there has been a growing debate about why we need gender equality training. Obviously, there are so many reasons. In this post, I will share a satirical fictional story about the similar issues from a different perspective – a situation where struggle for an equal rights symbol may lead to unintended consequences as the outcome may be altogether unexpected.
Here is the politically-correct story!
SmallCon – a small country
Once upon a time there used to be a very small and beautiful country named SmallCon. There were several hills in the country. Everyone was allowed to visit any of those hills except for one – the ObsHill. In normal situations no one was allowed to climb the ObsHill for some unknown and unspecific reasons. Moreover, the ObsHill was too steep to be climbed upon – posing a direct threat to the climber’s life.
Gender based restrictions
The ObsHill was accessible, however, with certain gender based restrictions. There was an age old custom in the SmallCon country – if a person with gender “A” (PoA) wanted to commit suicide, they could climb the ObsHill and jump down. People with gender “B” (PoB) were not allowed to enter the ObsHill premises, even for committing suicide.
PoB also wanted to go up the ObsHill to commit suicide, but the tradition didn’t allow their entry to the hill.
The PoBs continued their protest to get the equal rights to climb up the ObsHill and jump down, but the rights were never granted as it was against the age old customs, and safety. The said tradition continued for nearly 600 odd years.
Need for an Equal Rights Symbol
As the time passed, the country went through several democratic reforms and transitions. However, the discriminatory tradition still continued.
Finally, there was a ray of hope for the PoBs in the year 2017. By this time PoB had formed a strong political party in the SmallCon country. They had a say in determining the political course of SmallCon. They wanted nothing less a legislation as an equal rights symbol to climb the restricted hill.
Why We Need Gender Equality Training
In early 2017, PoB filed a case in the local High Court. The petition demanded that the PoBs should have the rights to decide the fate of their lives. The old custom of prohibiting PoB from climbing the ObsHill was termed against “the right of self-determinism”.
Equality and diversity legislation
The High Court upheld the idea of freedom (as enshrined in the constitution as per the wished of the founding fathers). The court ensured equality by allowing the PoBs to climb the restricted hill and commit suicide. At the same time, the Court also respected the age old tradition by not allowing the PoBs to enter ObsHill solely for the purpose of leisure. The federal government was instructed to bring an equality and diversity legislation within 6 months.
Special arrangements
A special task force was formed by the federal government to ensure compliance with the High Court order. Federal Road Transport Corporation (FRTC) started special bus services (with discounted fares) for transporting the PoBs from the countryside to the base of the ObsHill. VVIPs were given priority in buying online bus tickets for reaching the so far restricted hill. Several Non-profit organisations and came forward and joined the movement to assist the PoBs to realise their dreams.
Dawn of a new era
There was joy all around the world as the SmallCon country had led by example where each gender could get what it wanted. The print and electronic media took note of the recent development and left no stone untouched in spreading the great news.
The newly appointed President of the USA called upon the PM of SmallCon country to convey best wishes for ensuring equality and invited the PM for a state visit.
President of Russia termed the whole development as a “momentous occasion” for the mankind and immediately scheduled a non-state visit to the SmallCon country.
Similar events were reported across the globe. The world had awakened as the equality had ultimately prevailed. 🙂
