Learn Chinese Fast

Welcome to learn Chinese language online in SKMLifestyle’s Chinese Language course. Mandarin Chinese is a language known to be widely spoken by nearly 1.2 billion people (around 16% of the world population). The ancient language is full of characters with associated tones. As such, learning Mandarin is a different ballgame altogether. For example, if you wanted to learn English, you can start from the English alphabet (A, B, C… Z). If you want to learn Korean, you can start with the Korean alphabet (Hangul). But Chinese is a pictorial language. Although the Mandarin characters are based on certain well-defined patterns, there is no such A, B, C… Z that you’d simply master in order to read 100% of the Chinese characters. Moreover, the tones are crucial and without mastering them, it’s very difficult to communicate with the native speakers. So, a natural question arises – how to learn Mandarin Chinese?

Well, learning a complicated language like Chinese is in no way an easy task, but it’s doable. If more than a billion have done already done so, you too can do it. Although the journey goes through a tough terrain, it’s absolutely worth it. Moreover, I firmly believe that if you have learned languages like English or Korean before, you can master Chinese as well. However, in order to learn Chinese fast, all you need is to do is to follow a well-structured Chinese language course coupled with some extra patience.

In this section of my blog, I’ll teach you the functional Chinese- the language that’d help you to not just survive in China, but rather thrive in the Chinese world. Moreover, I aim at making the Chinese language course as simple and easy as possible for the foreigners with virtually no background in Chinese.

My mandarin Chinese learning journey so far – briefly!

Learning different languages is my hobby. I have already been learning Korean for quite a few years and can speak multiple languages. When I was in Singapore (2012-2017), I didn’t try to learn Mandarin as the English language was widely prevalent in Singapore. But when I came to China (November, 2017) for my job, it was a very different story all together. Everywhere there were mysterious Mandarin characters, and I didn’t even know how to read/write one character. I felt that the mysterious characters were hitting on me all the time. Soon I realized that surviving in China without knowing Mandarin is a big deal. I wanted to learn Mandarin Chinese, but the big question was – how to learn Mandarin Chinese? Gradually, I started learning Chinese, and now I am going to teach you the same in this Chinese language course. I will share the best way to learn Chinese. Please find more on Chinese in the background section presented in the Unit 0.

A consensus is emerging that if you master ~500 Mandarin Chinese characters, you might be able to interpret nearly 75% of the modern simplified Chinese characters (currently spoken in the mainland China). However, the native’s speakers use quite a few thousand characters, and you’ll need to know around 3000-4000 characters to speak like the natives. Fortunately, these characters are not used as often as the 500 characters that I am suggesting.
