Chinese Primary School Education Grade 1 Books (Beginner, Level 1)

I sincerely welcome you to the Chinese Primary School Education Series (简单了解中国的小学教育, Level 1). In this series, we will discover China’s primary/elementary education.

Broadly speaking, the primary education in China includes six genres:

  1. Moral Education (道德与法治, Dàodé yǔ fǎzhì),
  2. Mathematics (数学, Shùxué),
  3. English (英文, Yīngwén),
  4. Music (音乐, Yīnyuè),
  5. Arts (美术, Měishù),
  6. Language (语文, Yǔwén).

Starting from the Primary Grade 1, Chinese kids (age group 7+) are exposed to these textbooks. In fact, each of the aforementioned genres includes 2 books, Volume 1 (上册) and Volume 2 (下册). That is to say, in Primary Grade 1, the kids in China are exposed to a total of 12 books. I’m of the mind that it’s way too much for the 7-year-old kids. 🙂

That said, the books in Chinese Primary School Education Series are modeled based on the Chinese primary textbooks. There will be total 10 books for the Grade 1 (instead of 12). Well, I won’t be publishing two English books as I’m sure, if you are a foreigner learning the Mandarin Chinese language, you already have a good level of command over English language.

By going through these primary/elementary books, you will get a basic knowledge of how the Chinese kids learn Chinese language and culture. Each of these books would be in the form of short essays/stories followed by multiple answer type questions.
