I’ve been writing travel blog-posts for my July-2018 trip from Suzhou to the Huangshan Mountain (Anhui province of China). In my previous Yellow Mounatin blog-posts, I shared a myriad of issues related to logistics and a scenic trip to the Hongcun village. In this post, I’m going to talk about the Hot Springs (温泉, Wēnquán) that are integral part of the Huangshan scenic area.
Btw, earlier in March, 2018 I travelled to Hefei city as well (the capital of Anhui). You can find more in my Hefei blog-post- Hefei City, Anhui, China, Travel Review.
top things to do in Huangshan city
Here are the hyperlinks to all my blog-posts from the Yellow Mountain trip that I’d collectively refer as a Huangshan travel guide-
- Huangshan logistics and general travel issues,
- Hongcun village (宏村, Hóngcūn),
- Yellow Mountain – Huangshan scenic area (黄山风景区, Huángshān fēngjǐng qū),
- Huangshan Hot Springs (黄山温泉, Huángshān wēnquán) – covered in this post,
- Xidi village (西递, Xī dì).
What are the hot springs?
Well, a spring is basically the hot groundwater coming directly out of the earth’s crust. The water is heated geothermally and its temperature varies from region to region. The Huangshan Hot Springs are the collection of a variety of springs.
The temperature of Hunagshan spring changes from day to day according to prevailing atmospheric temperature. However, expect the water temperature to be around 42’C.
In fact, Huangshan springs comprise of so many bathing citadels. At least one citadel’s water is not too hot (mostly warm). For all other citadels, when you get into the water for the first time, it really feels insanely hot.
Four wonders of Yellow Mountain
There are four wonders of the Yellow Mountain (including the Hot Springs) – I’d write all the names for a quick reference-
- Hot Springs,
- Oddly-shaped rocks,
- Oddly-shaped pines,
- The seas of cloud.
You shouldn’t miss any of them!
Hot Springs, yellow mountain china map
Here is the Baidu travel Map of Huangshan Hot Springs – the Springs are located between Tangkou Bus Station and the Yun Gu Temple Cable Car station.
As you can see, the location of the hot spring is in the southern part of the Yellow Mountain scenic area.
How do you get to the Hot Springs?
You can get a bus to the Hot Springs directly from Tangkou Bus Station. Also, there are direct buses running non-stop between different cable car stations and the springs.
The one-way bus fare to the spring (from Tankou) would be around RMB 8. Jump over to my other Huangshan blog-post for further details.
Huangshan Hot Sprint ticket fee
The standard fee to enter the spring is RMB 196 (July, 2018). I had a student card and I got a discount as well – not much though. I paid RMB 156.
Swimming Clothes
Make sure to bring along proper swimming cloths for taking dips in the Hot Springs. You can also buy the swimming costumes at the Hot Spring, but it’s slightly expensive. The prices for the shorts start from RMB 58.
How many springs baths?
The Hunagshan Hot Spring water is divided into different colors for aesthetic values.
The depth of the water is less than 1m.
You’ll see the red, green, white, and colorless springs. You can enter in as many of them as you want. The springs are organized in small circles and there isn’t enough space for swimming. You can, of course, sit down in the water and relax or maybe practice yoga?
Best time to visit hot springs – summer or winter?
Well, the springs are open to the public throughout the year- and you can come here anytime.
It would be just perfect to be here in the winter season. However, I was here in July and I think the summer season is also quite fine.
Body Massage at Hot Springs
There are plenty of massage options available inside the Hot Spring area of the Yellow Mountain, including the Thai massage, oil massage, etc. If you like massage, you could opt for it. As you’d complete the shower, the spring service personnel would remind you about the same.
However, keep in mind that the massage prices are too high. For example, for a one-hour long massage session, you might have to pay more than RMB 1000.
How much time you need for Hot springs?
It totally depends on your desire for playing with the water. You could probably spend some time in the water and an hour for a sun bath. Overall, a couple of hours exploring the springs should be just fine.
Stay safe
If you are not used to taking showers in the hot water, you’ll need to be extra careful with Huangshan springs. I didn’t realize this and I got into a serious health trouble –I got inflammation in my private parts and had to visit a doctor in Suzhou.
Here is my detailed post-
In summary, if you are travelling to Huangshan, I think it’s absolutely worth to stop by the Hot Springs for a couple of hours. Take some precautions and you’d be fine. The area is highly scenic and you’d love travelling to China.
That’s all in this Huangshan travel guide blog-post about the Hot Spring (Yellow Mountain China tour).
