Shanghai city, located in the eastern part of the mainland China, is the financial and economic hub of China. The city is huge in terms of both area and population. Obviously, a lot can be written about this sprawling city. Albeit Shanghai points of interest often lacking the historical feel that you’d experience in Suzhou, Hangzhou or Beijing, it’s still worthwhile to stop by here at least for a couple of days. You can preferably treat Shanghai city as your gateway to the eastern Chinese cities (e.g. Nanjing, Suzhou, Hangzhou). I visited Shanghai around mid-February 2018, very close to the Chinese new year (spring festival). Going by the numbers, this was my 10th Chinese city.

The first post is about finding accommodation in Shanghai. I had a very bad experience in Shanghai, mainly due to the lack of information provided by booking.com.
Overall, Shanghai city locals are very friendly, and would rarely approach strangers. However, I was particularly surprised by the tourist scam prevailing in the Nanjing Lu area. There were lots of fluent English speaking girls who approached me for a free meal, bar, etc. That’s why I have a dedicated post on this topic – check out the details in the aforementioned post.
